Boat trip from Lembeek to Seneffe. The boat will go to the top of the Ronquières Inclined Plane.
This day trip through the Zenne, Samme and Hain valley to Ronquières
is one of Belgium's most impressive boat trips. In order to bridge
the differences in height the boat uses old and modern techniques.
Place of appointment is the Lembeek lock. The boat trip starts on
the Charleroi-Brussels canal at 9:00am sharp. It will sail through
the Ittre lock, which will lock the ship and bridge a 14 metres difference
in height. At the end of the itinerary the boat will enter a 'bac'
(caisson), in which it will go up to the top of the Ronquières Inclined
Plane on tracks. In this way a 67 metres difference in height will
be bridged. The boat navigates to Seneffe, where the trip will be
continued by bus and accompanied by a guide. There will be a visit
to the hundred-year-old hydraulic boat lifts on the old Canal du Centre
(near La Louvière) and the impressive Strépy-Thieu boat lift. From
the 'Belvedère' - which provides a beautiful sight - you can see the
new lift and its surroundings. Finally we will take a short break
at the 'Cantine des Italiens', where once the first Italian immigrants
of this mining district used to live and which has now been turned
into a small museum and a tavern. The bus takes you back to Lembeek
at approximately 5:30pm.
