Canal trip up to Ittre.
The boat leaves the 'Pont de Clabecq' (Tubize) at 3:00pm sharp.
Pleasant afternoon round trip through the slightly hilly landscape
of Flemish and Walloon Brabant. The Charleroi-Brussels canal, in popular
speech often called the 'coal-removal canal', has over the years lost
its greyness to make way for a magnificent green landscape.
Still impressive are the remnants of the infamous 'Forges de Clabecq',
a disused iron foundry. From the water one can still see the old blast-furnaces'
gruesome steel outlines. The blast-furnaces are a nice example of
Belgium's industrial legacy. The boat will sail up to the lock of
Ittre. Here the ship returns to Halle.
The boat will be back in Tubize at 4:30pm.
