Boat trip from Brussels or Vilvoorde to the Scheldt country. Return on your own initiative.

Varied boat trip from Brussels and Vilvoorde to the Scheldt country. We sail on the Brussels-Scheldt Sea Canal and on the mighty tide-bound Scheldt.

The Sea Canal is one of our country's oldest and most important transport routes, but in addition to its economic function, this waterway also has many recreational and tourist assets. Cruising through the rural Green Belt, you will discover richly vegetated canal banks and specially constructed verges, habitat for small wading birds, herons and shore swallows.

We pass the ship lock at Zemst (an experience in itself) and cruise past the 'Noordelijk Eiland' nature reserve with willow thickets, grassland and Heck cattle.

Via the impressive Wintam/Bornem sea lock, we reach the Scheldt. We sail past mud flats, salt marshes and newly controlled flood plains and enjoy the beauty of the former fishing villages Mariekerke and Sint-Amands. At Sint-Amands, a short visit to Emile Verhaeren's grave is on the programme. It is located in a small amphitheatre on the banks of the Scheldt.

Our boat trip ends at Temse. This Scheldt city's is known for its rich shipyard past.

The return from Temse is organised on your own initiative (train).
