Brussels has been laying on the banks of the canal for centuries, but the people from Brussels have looked upon this waterway in their city with contempt for a long time. Today, however, the canal has become the place to be. Besides its transport, tourism and ecological function, the canal is also a place to live, to work and to recreate. Numerous urban projects have been completed or are under development. The site of Thurn&Taxis is an example of the evolution that the canal has seen. From railway station and a storage of merchandise, the location has been renovated into a beautiful modern business and commercial complex, respecting the previous architecture.
